Uncluded - "Hokey Fright"

As soon as something is described to me as "quirky" I'm out...I can't hang. I immediately picture the most ironic of hipsters praising their latest bootleg of Tuvan throat singing while wearing some obnoxious pastel t-shirt announcing to the world that they "run on puppy power...quirky indeed
This record will probably be described as quirky by the blogosphere but please friends, do NOT let that turn you off.
This is probably the most lyrically well-crafted album to grace my ears so far this year. Kimya Dawson's gentle, quasi-innocent words dance around the gruff verbal maypole that Aesop Rock has firmly planted into a musical landscape that could easily be straight from the pages of the brothers Grimm.
Humor twirls with sadness, introspection bows to sharp observation, minutea has meaning...this record is deeper than it appears yet it can easily be put on as background music to make heads bob.
TLDR? - Magic words from Kimya Dawson and Aesop Rock.
Seriously - Amanda Bynes ( @AmandaBynes) is winning Twitter this week.
All with a few haggard selfies with vague commentary and retweets from even stranger dudes and dudettes - she has singlehandedly unified everyone (even the people who share NOTHING in common with those of us on the programming side of things) at New Rock Headquarters with water-cooler discussion about her misadventures.
Here are a few of my favorites so you don't have to go dig em up:

I attended the inaugural year of the North Coast Music Festival and had a buttrubbing blast out in that funky-ass park in Chicago over Labor Day weekend in 2009.
Chemical Brothers, Paul Van Dyke, Disco Biscuits, Nas & Damian Marley, De La Soul - it was hella hella fun.
Well, this festival just announced their first round of bands for Labor Day Weekend 2013 and it certainly does not suck, sir.
In preparation for my great move west, I began packing up my records and other goofy minutea and kitch last night. I dug up some real gems from YEARS ago during my time as host for our local show, now Iowa: Unsigned.
They were albums from bands long gone, bands that have done so much then anyone ever thought possible and bands that, to this day, I hold dear as friends.
It really took me back and lead me to look up some goofy online video documenting some of the most interesting and eclectic Iowa artists of the last ten years:
That's just a smattering of what's out there....thanks for all the great memories you guys.
