Whelp, this is it....my last week at New Rock 105.1.
Over the years, I've collected many memories, friends and stories and over the next few days, I'll tell you some of my favorites.
One of the things about working in this industry that you need to know before going forward with my anecdote is that everyone employed by a radio station has the same humor quotient as your average 13 year old boy. Farts, dicks, boobs, boogers and other such sophomoric triviality make up nearly all the content that makes us laugh. Even the females (a much fairer and reputedly more mature gender than us) at the radio station are not immune to fits of laughter when the resolute blast from someone's butt trumpet sounds.
Every six months or so, we get a new batch of young, impressionable interns who are here to learn about the broadcasting industry with hands-on experience and with that experience their goal is to absorb as much knowledge that both their first person activities and our expertise can provide.
In between learning about compression levels and the proper way to cut banner-on-the-roll, we find ways to alleviate some of the behind-the-scenes monotony that can accompany the job. In our rotation of mirth for a long time was a game that we full time staff liked to call, "Lettuce or Booger"
The Downtown Deli, a super-rad sandwich shop just a block or so away from New Rock Headquarters and one of our favorite lunch spots, uses a variety of shredded lettuce that when rolled up and compressed looks not unlike a freshly mined ball of boogery goodness.

The idea behind lettuce or booger is that the player (i.e. an intern or even a man off the street) is called over and asked to identify whether the item on the extended index finger of the presenter is a rolled up ball of shredded Downtown Deli lettuce or a bound up ball of dried mucus.
Get it right and the item, be it booger or lettuce then isn't flicked in your direction. Get it wrong and face the scorn of your coworkers for not being able to tell lettuce from booger.
Fun Fact #1 - At our remote on Saturday I heard a women order a "hambooger" from the grill jockey outside the West Ames HyVee.
