This slot on the list is a zombie movie...but not the kind you're probably thinking of.
#4 - The Serpent and the Rainbow
Here we have Bill Pullman (or is it Paxton, I can never remember which is which) as an anthropologist visiting Haiti on the hunt for a mythical voodoo powder that can mimic death in the hopes that it will revolutionize modern anesthetics.
What he finds is a backwards country and a weird little troll that drives a nail through his weiner.
Let me repeat....HE GETS A NAIL DRIVEN THROUGH HIS WEINER!

TSATR is more of a weird drama than a horror movie but it's inclusion of zombies and the fact that it is "loosely based on a true story" coupled with the fact that the protagonist gets a spike through the ding dong ramps it up my list to #4.
Fun Fact #1 - Due to political strife and civil turmoil in Haiti during the production, the local government informed the film crew that they could not guarantee their safety for the remainder of the shoot. The crew subsequently relocated to nearby Dominican Republic to complete filming.
